Anthropomorphic Phantoms

Stereotactic Radiosurgery Head Phantom

IROC Houston developed an anthropomorphic head phantom to test institutions' abilities to locate and treat an intra-cranial target to a high degree of precision. The phantom is mailed to institutions that wish to partcipate.

The phantom is made of a thermoplastic material in the shape of a head of standard dimensions. The head is mailed with two interchangeable inserts.  The imaging insert can be imaged by CT or MRI and allows for treatment volume definition.  The dosimetry insert contains radiochromic film and TLD and is used during the treatment of the phantom.  IROC Houston uses the treatment planning information given by the institution and the data gathered with TLD and film to analyze the institution's ability to deliver the treatment that it plans.  Click here for irradiation guidelines and forms.
